Summary
Electrify America is installing more rapid chargers across the United States than you can poke a stick at. They currently have over 800 charging stations with around 3,500 individual chargers from 150 kW up to 350 kW. They are currently installing 4 new charging stations or hubs every week. This is a seriously rapid roll out. Electrify America have developed ways to reduce strain on local grids with their installation of multiple rapid chargers. Robert Barrosa is the Senior Director of Sales, Business Development & Marketing for Electrify America, and in this week's episode of the Fully Charged Show Podcast, he explains how this is being achieved and a little bit about the history of the funding that has made much of this expansion possible. In late 2016, the U.S. Justice Department fined VW $30 billion after the company was caught rigging two of its diesel engines to pass U.S. emissions tests. That figure included the funding new zero-emissions vehicle technology and in particular charging networks. Quite a sensible way of using the money from a corporate fine.

| 0:38.0 | One of the great advantages we have in this running this show, so there's, you know, |
| 0:44.3 | I'm talking fully Charged Show on YouTube. And also this podcast is that we have been supported |
| 0:51.7 | by some amazing companies. And in particular, I'm going to go straight in to thank our sponsor, |
| 0:57.1 | our main sponsor, our headline sponsor, our only sponsor of this podcast, a company, my energy, |
| 1:04.1 | who are based in the UK, who when we first met them, I think we're four people who are now |
| 1:08.3 | close to 400. And they make some brilliant products. And I'm really, I'm mentioning this now |
| 1:12.7 | because it is still sunny outside here in the UK. And I'm using a thing called a Zappy Charger, |
| 1:18.5 | which is made by my energy. It's a little charging fella up on the wall of my garage, as a socket, |
| 1:23.5 | I plug a wire in, plug the other in into my car. And at the moment, it is only using |
| 1:28.8 | excess solar energy from my solar panels that's going into the car. What is the cost per kilowatt |
| 1:34.0 | hour of that? It is zero, which is incredibly important in our current climate. Let's be honest, |
| 1:43.0 | because it's, and we're all in a very terrifying position in the UK. For those of you outside, |
| 1:46.9 | the UK who don't quite know what's going on with our energy costs, it is unimaginably horrendous. |
| 1:53.8 | It is going, there are costs are going up hundreds of percent. I didn't even know this would ever |
| 2:00.0 | be possible. And something will obviously break and it will have to be sorted, but it is |
| 2:04.9 | truly terrifying. So, companies like my energy are really coming into the room because what they |
| 2:09.2 | help you do is two things, save energy by using it carefully and at the right time. And also allow |
