Welcome to another edition of the Cheryl Ackison podcast.

Today, the story behind the story of my reporting about conflicts of interest involving widely prescribed statin drugs to lower cholesterol.

Pardon the background noise today. I'm sure you'll understand if I tell you that I'm on the road,

as I frequently am in the summer, researching and shooting ahead news stories for the fall season of Full Measure

My Sunday TV program were about to begin season 11 in the fall. When I left CBS News in 2014

ahead of my contract, wrote a book about that called Stonewalled, I thought at the time who would want to hire somebody who quit their contract ahead of time

and basically told some of the inside dirty laundry in a book about what was happening to the industry,

which is pretty much widely known now but not so much at the time.

Who would want to hire me after that? But I

lucked into this opportunity to have my own Sunday TV show independent of the networks and

independent of a lot of the influences I complained about. And I'm shocked that full measure has

been going for so long now, 10 years, and that we're starting a season 11.

Also, the biggest supporter at Sinclair David Smith, who afforded me the opportunity to do the program.

And when we first discussed it, I talked about or addressed the possibility that he might

want a conservative show because he is a conservative person and certainly interested in

conservative politics.

I had always worked for liberal billionaires at CBS News, at CNN with Ted Turner.

I also worked for PBS with a show called Health Week.

So this was going to be a switch to work for a conservative boss.
