For only the second time in American history,

Congress has passed the point of no return.

You don't even have to be convicted of a crime.

To lose your job in this constitutional republic,

if this body determines that your conduct is a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role.

The House of the United States shall be

the President of the United States shall be removed

from office on impeachment for and conviction of treason, bribery, or other high crimes

and misdemeanors.

With these words, the framers of the Constitution gave the people through their elected

representatives the power to protect the Republic from presidents who violate their oath in

egregious ways. They didn't take this step lightly. It's a big deal to throw a person

with millions of supporters out of elected office and for this reason they

erected steep hurdles to ending a presidency. It can't happen unless a majority of

representatives and two-thirds of senators all agree that it must.

When the House impeaches a president then, it crosses a Rubicon into the most grave political

fight a country can have.

That's why the impeachment power has only been in vote against three presidents and has never actually been used to remove one.
