I'm Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe and ESPN, and we welcome you to the Thursday morning

edition of the Sports Reporters podcast. Mitch, Mike, and I spent upwards of three decades on

television, and now we are taking this act into this forum, and we're having a a great time and we hope you will enjoy us.

And we will be gentlemen, we had a momentous occasion. We had the most anticipated debut of an NBA

player in 15 years, I believe, last night. And that would be, of course, the previous one being

LeBron James but at

long last Zion Williamson appeared before our very eyes and it was an interesting

juxtaposition from his beginning to that incredible outburst in the third

quarter I would say wouldn't you think you know for all stuff, guys, and we talk about this all the time,

you know, we constantly hear what a hot property of the NBA is and what a hot story it is

and how it's the one that's resonating with kids.

And they were so panicked by declining ratings early in the year that they floated the idea

of this in-season tournament this kid comes along

at the exact right time i'm not saying they need him but they kind of need them and and

even this late start into the season i think played into the excitement about last night he's got a

great name he's a great talent nobody you know there's nobody

who has quite the same skill set as as is this kid it's like bob and mitch it's like he's a charlie

berkeley who's way more athletic than barclay was he's got an unbelievable second jump.
