Sometimes fact is far more terrifying than fiction.

On May 31st, 2014, a young girl almost lost her life at the hands of two

friends who planned her murder as a means of proving their worth to a fictional entity that had crept

into the nightmares of many. So, if you like your coffee hot but your bones chilled, sit back and

start your day with a morning cup of murder.

Before we get started, I need to make sure that everyone listening knows who the main

player of today's story is, an entity that most of you may know, or at least have heard of

in passing, a creature of fiction and fantasy named Slender Man.

Slender Man is an entity that was first created on the Something Awful Online Forum as part of a 2009

paranormal Photoshop contest.

And what started out as a simple image soon took on a mythos that nearly anyone with a computer

and a bit of imagination could contribute to. He is a tall, rail-thin humanoid with a featureless

white face and wearing a black suit from which long, dangerous tentacles can shoot out if you

get too close. He is a creature who causes amnesia, bouts of coughing,

and paranoia, and is often seen hiding in the woods and stalking unsuspecting children.

Again, a creature of fiction, but when young people from all over the world started to learn his name,

he took on a life of his own and instilled a fear that was very, very real.
