Now before I dive into this I want to put just a teeny tiny disclaimer out there

However, I found this topic particularly interesting because myself, along with, well, most everyone

that I know doesn't really sleep well.

And it turns out there might actually be a reason for that

a reason that I had no idea existed until very recently so let's get into it and take a

look at what the sleep industry is actually up to. Before the Industrial Revolution, sleep was actually broken up into two four-hour chunks with an hour or so of activity puncturing sleep. This was called bimodal or by phasic sleep. Without

electrical and a natural light, people would go to bed with the sunset, wake up and

do chores, and then go back to bed for another cycle before sunrise.

According to historian A Roger Eckertch and sleep researcher Siobon Banks,

some people still naturally wake up in the middle of the night, but experience anxiety because they believe they need to sleep continuously through the night.
