Summary

In this powerful and eye-opening episode, cardiologist Dr. Alain R. Vaval, MD, sits down with Melyssa for a raw, real talk about one of the deadliest—and most preventable—threats to our lives: heart disease. Why is it still the #1 cause of death in the U.S.? And why is it hitting the Black community the hardest? Dr. Vaval breaks down the truth about cholesterol, the real signs of a heart attack (they’re not always what you think), and how you can take control of your heart health before it’s too late. Your life—or someone you love—could depend on what you learn in this next episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Before I introduce my esteemed guest, I want to tell you guys a little story.

0:31.0

So I moved to New Jersey in 2023, and the first priority that I had was getting myself set up with a health care plan

0:41.6

and finding myself doctors, a general practitioner, gynecologist, the whole nine. So I found myself a GP.

perimenopause. A lot of women are starting to see their cholesterol levels rise. And I don't

1:53.5

really think that doctors know the real reason why. There's speculation, there's theory, but since

1:59.2

menopause is still kind of like an iceberg,

2:01.5

you only see this little bit, and a lot of the, you know, the information is under the surface

2:07.1

and yet to be discovered.

2:08.7

It's still up in the air as to what the reasons were.
