0:00.0	Hi, I'm Edward Sree, and welcome to all things Catholic where real faith meets real life. This Sunday the Catholic Church in the Mass readings is going to bring us right
0:18.6	into the heart of Jesus's public ministry. I want you to pay close attention to the gospel reading.
0:24.2	It comes from Matthew Chapter 13, which is at the center of Matthew's gospel as a key turning point
0:30.3	in Jesus's public ministry. It is when Jesus starts teaching systematically in parables.
0:37.2	In parables.
0:38.2	Now I bet some of you are thinking, well what's the big deal?
0:40.3	I know Jesus teaches in parables, but I suspect that many of us, many of us
0:45.2	don't fully appreciate just how radical this was for Jesus to start teaching in parables.
0:50.8	So we might understand why all of a sudden he shifted his teaching method.
0:54.6	Did you know that before this moment in his public ministry Jesus barely ever used
0:58.8	parables, but now all of a sudden he starts telling the many things in parables, one after another, after another, so much so that the disciples are shocked.
1:08.6	In Matthew chapter 13 verse 10, it tells them Jesus told them many things in parables and the disciples were surprised.
1:14.9	They say to Jesus, why do you speak to them in parables?
1:19.0	They realize something significant is happening right now in Jesus's public ministry and they want to know why.
1:26.0	Why did he shift the teaching method? What does this mean?
1:30.0	They have a better grasp of parables that many of us do in the 21st century.
1:33.6	I wanted to bring you into that biblical world to appreciate this turning point in Jesus'
