Peter's again, after 74 race days, since he last claimed victory in the Tour de France, has won the 75th. I think I've got my maths correct there.

And David, it was a brutal stage. They've moved, or the juror did tell you, they've moved up now subsequent to the rest day.

They've moved up into more familiar territory that you'd remember having raced there from Torreno Adriatico.

So today's stage was like a stage of Torreno Adriatico, except for my money, it was like the worst kind of stage on Torreno Adriatico.

So it was full of nasty surprises, pretty much the whole way, until they got to this little finishing circuit where the race went up.

This two kilometre climb that was about 18% within the final 20 kilometres. So that was the big finale.

But ever since they got underway and the flag dropped, it was clear that Walter Hansgrove were trying to place Sagan in the move for the day.

And it took a long time for the break to go, and eventually the break went, and it was in one constitution or another. It had Sagan in it.

And then it had slightly too many riders, got whittled down a bit. It got up to about 45 seconds to gap, and other riders in it.

It was a good strong move, and other riders in there included Filippo Ganna and Ben Swift of Ineos amongst other riders.

Really good move. And then Arnaud Damar, who's, of course, wearing the points jersey, and really wouldn't have stood a chance on today's finish, whatever happened, decided he wasn't going to allow Sagan to get up the road.

So he dedicated his entire team, the gap went out to about 45 seconds, and the closest they got, it was about three quarters of an hour racing with FTJ, Group Armour FTJ on the front, trying to bring this move back.

To get in another little group, trying to get across this gap, very nearly got there, got to within about eight seconds, they got pulled back.

But Group Armour FTJ couldn't quite get it done, and they got to within about 12 seconds. I think maybe, maybe a little bit more than that at the closest.

They were firing riders off. I mean, Ramon Stinkeldan, just a band on the race, he was that tired, and stepped off. And one bow down there was just going, and then Arnaud Damar got on the front himself, and did a huge turn very effectively.

But it was pretty desperate staff, and it was testimony to how committed this breakaway were. And Sagan, who was ultimately, I suppose, a problem for everybody in the breakaway, not least because had the move gone all the way, which he did in the end, he would have won the race,

which he did in the end, but also his presence there threatened the very existence of the breakaway because of the way that Group Armour FTJ were racing.
