0:36.2	Thank you, President Worthen, and I greatly appreciate that
0:39.4	beautiful singing. An earlier leader of the church said that what we need in the church is better
0:45.7	music and more of it, and better speaking, and less of it. We certainly had the better singing this morning. I greatly enjoyed it. Today I would like to talk
0:58.7	about some of the big issues of our time, through the lens of history and literature as well as
1:04.1	the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We live in a day of technological and scientific marvels.
1:21.6	It is also a time of uncertainty, one in which many question whether or not faith and religion have a place in their lives or in the public square. You too will have to decide whether faith has an enduring place in your own life. In fact, there are dramatic
1:30.0	changes occurring within this country as it relates to faith and religion. A recent Pew
1:36.2	Research Center study reported a dramatic decline in the share of the U.S. population
1:42.9	that identifies as Christian. From 2007 to 2014,
1:48.9	in just seven years, it fell an extraordinary eight percentage points. While the drop is occurring
1:56.9	across the board, it is especially pronounced among young adults.
2:03.0	The world today poses many threats to faith in God, and the unfortunate fact is, faith
2:10.1	in God is waning.
2:12.3	This is not the first time in history such a crisis of faith has loomed. There was a similar period around 100 years ago.
2:21.3	As the 20th century opened, the world held great hope and enthusiasm for the future.
2:27.7	Science was supplying astounding breakthroughs at every turn, and the world seemed to be rushing
2:33.5	toward a modern period when
2:36.0	mankind, through its own self-generated progress and technology, might finally be able to solve
