Alicia never expected to wind up in a fertility clinic, because she never thought she'd

want to have children.

She grew up in Jamaica with a lot of responsibilities for her siblings.

So I am one of five, the second of said five, but I'm the first girl, and in my culture,

you are required to help your mommy out.

You don't have a safe soul in it, and so bottles were done by me.

Laundry was done by me since I was nine years old, and I hated the last part of it.

So I always told myself, when I got older, I didn't want kids.

And the sad part about it is I think the tongue is so, it's powerful, so you got to be very

careful with what you said.

What do you mean?

I think because of, I mean, having chills, because all my life I've said I didn't want

kids that I spoke that into existence.

Now for a lot of people that doesn't, it's not real to them, for me it is real.

So that's why I mean when I say the tongue is powerful, because I kept telling myself

I didn't want children, and I feel whoever I pray to listen to me.

And then when I wanted children, I was in a position where my only way of having kids

was via IVF.

Alicia was in her 20s when she decided she wanted to have children.

She was in a relationship then with the man who would become her husband.

Someone she met when she moved to the U.S.

She tried to get pregnant and nothing was happening.
