English at the University of Utah, where she was formerly dean of the College of Humanities.

It's a pleasure to be here.

So, Hollis, a basic question to start with.

How high is the quality of teaching in American higher education?

Well, first of all, there's no studies.

So I could say it's all over the place.

It's really bad.

The average, the median, the mode, we just actually don't know.

What I've seen as a former dean, as a professor at multiple institutions is that the best

is great. I would say most teaching, a college students, that a student is going to get

at a college or university is going to be mediocre to bad,

if not very bad, particularly given the rise of online asynchronous instruction.

How much has that online asynchronous instruction invaded sort of the market share of sort of a typical higher education program.

I mean, certainly we know that in K-12, which is kind of my area, we know that there's a lot more,
