He entered college is one of the most highly decorated athletes in Louisiana history. In high school, he was ranked as the top football and basketball player in the state. He was also recognized as the nation's number one tied-in prospect and was named the Ward Dunn, Louisiana player the year.

As a freshman at LSU, he appeared in all 13 games with two starts, came back in the sophomore season.

He led the team and set LSU single-season record for touchdowns by a tied-in with seven,

also earning second-te-team all-SECD honors.

He also became one of the first football players selected for Nike's inaugural NIL Blue Ribbon Elite program from Jackson, Louisiana.
