Summary

Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP The Race Communique is exclusively brought to you by The Escape Collective. Check out the new and improved BikeGrid which now goes all the way back to riders from 2001! Go and check it out and let me know how you get on. Hey everyone, just like that, the 2024 World Tour season has nearly wrapped up. Even though there's still racing happening in China, here at Life in the Peloton, we're calling it and diving straight into the final Race Communiqué of the season. I'm joined by Luke and Tom, just days into their offseasons, to unpack what has been one of the best seasons of racing I’ve ever seen. Not every year you get to witness a Grand Slam or experience the kind of non-stop action and long-range attacks we had in 2024. In this Race Communiqué, we’ve got much more than just a seasonal wrap-up. Tom jumps in early with his Talking Tactics segment, and then we settle into Luke's Pelo Chat, where he shares insights on the future of the U23 category and how the UCI might look to enhance youth racing moving forward. We’ve also highlighted some of our favourite rides, riders, races, and memorable moments from the year. With our different opinions, you'll hear some fantastic stories that emerged during our conversation. To top it all off, we have the end-of-season Communi-quiz, which is crucial for determining who will be shouting the beers during the offy! I really enjoy putting these Communiqués together, and this one was a blast to make. It’s a shame we can’t do more for now, but for 2024, this is your final episode of The Communiqué. We hope you've enjoyed listening along. We'll be back after a well-deserved break (with a few cold ones) for an even better 2025. So stay tuned, and for now, sit back, relax, and enjoy. Cheers, Mitch

Off-season looms for all.

0:19.7

I'm just wrapping up things here. Dirty Docker is done. Southern, you were done?

0:25.0

Yeah, last race was Saturday. So into my off-season, which was basically Sunday and now working on next year.

0:34.8

It's awesome. It's really good. A really good day is Sunday. That's it now. I flew home. It's great. Turbo? I'm about 12 kilos in. No, 12 days. I'm going to say 12 beers deep. It has to be said, turbo. You do look deep into the off-season. It's the most relaxed and, relaxed and comfortable I've seen you all year. Thanks, man. Am I just, like, constantly just on edge? Just like, yeah, at any moment. I'm having a cup of tea currently. It's 11 o'clock in the morning. I've done nothing so far. And yeah, it's good. I ran 25K last week, though, so I'm really good. Nice. So, Derbo, fill people in on your

off-season theory, which, look, I'm not shit-canting it. I like the theory. It was one hour of exercise a day, isn't it? Yep. And it can be anything, can be playing tennis, can be playing ball, can be running, whatever you feel like, as long as you do one hour of exercise a day. That's it. And it's not necessarily

1:28.2

I would exercise anyway. You know, like I'm pretty, I need to get that sort of detox or, you know, get it out of your mind or just do something. I'm a bit like agitated if I don't do anything. So, yeah, I just allocate one hour a day for a month and then it turns into sort of

1:45.2

six to seven hours a day for the nationals. In case you're tuning in for the first time, guys,

this is the Race Communique, the Life and the Peloton podcast production made possible by

our partner map, of course, but the Race Communique is exclusively being brought to you by the Escape Collective.

2:04.5

And boys, previously, we've spoken about it before, Bike Grid.

2:10.2

Now, it's previously only been current riders, which it gets a bit tricky and not quite as

2:15.9

fun.

2:16.2

But what they've gone and done is they've gone back

2:18.6

and got a bit more historic rise right back to 2001. It makes the game easier to play. It's still

2:24.5

pretty hard to master. But it just gives it a bit more bigger variety of more characters.

2:29.7

They're working on it to try and get the database back to 1980, which I'm looking really forward to. That's going to be in the next update. Head across to bikegrid.orgatecollective.com and check it out, the new and improved version. I'm sure everyone knows about it already. I've had a little tinker. I'm going to go back and get back involved again because it's been a few weeks since I've played, maybe even a few months.

2:55.4

So that's the one feature I thought was missing, like going back a little bit because it's like where you're sort of like expertise is.

2:58.0

I was like, I wish you could pick so and so.

2:59.8

I wish you would be, that would be cool.
