I love that you cannot strain all of the mystery out of the scripture.

You cannot do it.

He will not let you.

He will not let me.

He leaves some things flat unanswered.

And if you want to know where people of faith get into big trouble, it's that when we force answers, that God has not clearly given. And then we're speaking for him, and he's up there

going like, and who are you?

For believers, for us, this side of the cross and the resurrection, the outpouring of the spirit, needless to say, three says to us, it says to us a couple of things.

It says to us on the third day.

It also says that's Trinity to us, God, the Father, God, the Son, God, the Holy Spirit. So it's very, very tempting to impose the Trinity

on this scene with these three visitors. But we know that they're not. For one thing, the text is just

not going to submit to that interpretation.

But secondly, we're told, and I want you to look ahead for a moment, I want you to look.

Would you glance with me and you'll see if you have segments, segment headings, you're going to notice that right before verse 16, it says that Abraham is going to plead for Sodom.

So, I mean, the sin is, the outcry of sin has been great in Sodom, and I mean, God is going to look.

And there's the three visitors.

And so the one hangs back.

Two of the visitors go on, and then he begins to have a talk with who he calls Lord.

This time it is capital L-O-R-D, and it is Yahweh,

and he is talking to God himself.

But here's what we're told in Genesis 19, verse 1,
