The price of gasoline, good news, and bad.

Hello again, I'm Armin Alney, and this is To the Point from Public Radio International.

The daily look at the issues, Americans care about most.

The AAA says

gasoline prices have dropped in the U.S. for the 82nd day in a row to an average of $1.70 a gallon.

Worldwide, the price of oil is dropping so fast that dollar a gallon gasoline is possible sometime next year.

Would Americans jump back into gas-guzzling SUVs? What about energy independence

and alternative fuels? Should gasoline taxes be increased to combat global warming and promote

international stability? On reporter's notebook later on, Barack Obama tells Rod Blagojevich resign.

down from $147 a barrel in July to $45 today.

Meantime, the price of gasoline in the U.S. just might go to $1 a gallon.

notebook, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich went back to work today, but Barack Obama wants him

out so a special election can fell his Senate seat. We'll update Illinois' latest political

scandal.
