The speed at which Elon Musk has changed the conversation in Washington with the work of Doge,

demanding government efficiency, going after all the different pork projects that existed within government and hiring a group of people in order to fire probationary employees and other critical people within the government,

including those who have their mindset on being lifetime employees, career employees of the

government, has really changed the

conversation in Washington. It's like nothing I've seen before in the modern era in terms of

the speed at which all of this is happening. And the shock to the system that is happening

within Northern Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. is really not something that any of these bureaucrats had been

expecting. There had been an assumption that once Donald Trump got back into office, he would

effectively be some kind of lame duck, incapable of running again, someone who, you know,

the Republicans on Capitol Hill could ignore something that bureaucrats would

essentially dig in and avoid doing the work that he would demand of them in order to try to outlast

him. That impression has been disabused and disabused forcefully. The other question, though,

that emerges is when this is going to stop. To me, I think the real problem here is going to be members of the president's own party.

They dislike the fact that Elon Musk works as quickly as he does and essentially announces things via tweet,

as opposed to running them through the normal traps that political decisions make have to navigate in order to be achieved within a party.
