On March 28, 2017, Ivanka Trump's apparel company applied for 17 trademarks from the government of China.

It was the day before his Trump officially joined her father's White House staff as an unpaid advisor.

Since then, many of these trademarks have been granted and registered by an arm of the Chinese government,

seven of them just this month for items like housewares and cushions.

All this, while President Trump is involved in delicate negotiations with China over trade and security.

Is there a connection? The president of Ivanka Trump's company said these trademarks were granted

in the normal course of business, an effort she says to prevent third parties from capitalizing

by marketing products with the Trump brand. But Washington watchdog groups aren't buying it.

They say that these Chinese trademarks are just one more example of the corruption inherent

in the Trump family's decision to maintain their international business ties while Donald Trump is

president. We'll talk today with the chief of one of those watchdog groups, Norm Eisen,

the former ethics advisor to President Obama on today's edition of Skull Duggery.
