One of the challenges of our time is defining the purpose of an institution.

0:13.1

Why does a company exist?

0:15.4

That's a legitimate question to ask.

0:17.4

It's a question that not enough companies ask, in fact.

0:20.7

And I think it's the lack of a mission or a purpose of a say company that allows for

0:27.3

Orthogonal often poisonous agendas to fill that void if a company has a clearly defined mission to say that I'm a restaurant, I serve

1:25.0

K through 12 education system. Our K through 12 education system exists for one

1:30.4

purpose to educate children in this country.

1:35.0

I know that doesn't sound like a radical idea, but it's treated as though it is a radical idea today,

1:40.0

because those schools today are operated as though their purpose were something else

1:44.5

to provide employment opportunities for teachers who are members of public employee unions.

1:50.1

Think about that in a public school context, what does that mean?
