Hollywood is a pretty unique talent, maybe even as important long term as actual

filmmaking talent. Today's show is about that skill, and our guest has been both an expert

filmmaker and industry navigator for almost 50 years. And now he's done something even more

radical. He's telling his story publicly. Ed Zwick began his career as a TV writer. He co-created 30-something, my so-called

life in the 80s with his longtime partner, Marshall Herskovitz. Then he went on to become a

hugely successful studio filmmaker in an era when the studios were actually making high-end dramas

with big movie stars. He directed about last night with the Brad Pack, Glory and Courage

Under Fire with Denzel,

Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt, Blood Diamond with Leo, the Last Samurai and the Jack

Reacher sequel with Tom Cruise, many more. In the process, he picked up some pretty wild stories,

as well as a ton of wisdom about surviving and thriving in the industry. And thankfully,

he's now written a book, hits, flops, and other illusions,
