Arguments for abortion say a lot about the issue. For the Colson Center, I'm John Stone Street with the point.

Young pro-choice writer Kathleen Walsh recently published a conversation about abortion that she had with her mother.

The exchange ran at the cut. It's fascinating and frustrating. Walsh's mom got right to the point.

The fact that the unborn are babies. Whether you wonder or not, she says, doesn't change what it is. But Walsh insists that because it's in my body,

it's still part of me. It's not a person. It's a theoretical person, to which her mom replies,

before I decided you existed, you still existed. But it wasn't me, said Walsh. I exist because you chose

for me to exist. She doesn't seem to appreciate that she's only around to make this absurd argument because her mom first rejected it.

It's sad to hear someone so committed to abortion she denies her own existence in the womb.

But theoretical persons are the logical outcome of a worldview that says humans only have value when they're wanted.

I hope this mother-daughter conversation will have the opposite fact than the one the daughter intended.
