Hey, oh, oh, come on and take a seat on the virtual couch.

0:22.8

Hey, everybody.

0:25.6

Welcome to episode 300 of the virtual couch.

0:26.7

I am your host, Tony Overbay.

0:29.0

And I thought I would start off today with a quick story.

0:31.6

It was just something that I thought about as I was going to record today.

0:36.5

I had a client a couple of weeks ago asked me what I had planned for my 300 episode.

0:38.3

And admittedly, I had not really thought much about it as if it were a big monumental occasion. And on episode 200, a couple of years ago,

0:43.8

I was about to say 200 years ago, but I think it was two years ago, Joshua Shea, who had co-authored

0:48.2

a book with me, said that he wanted to interview me, and we had a lot of fun. But that really does seem like forever ago. And it also seems

0:55.1

like just a few weeks ago, which led me to think just again about how different we all are as

1:00.2

human beings. So for some, things like dates are significant and they are big and they are huge.

1:05.3

And for others, they are just dates on the calendar. And so who's right about that? No one

1:10.2

and everybody. simply meaning that

1:12.6

if dates or episode numbers are important to you, then check that out. That is absolutely a thing.

1:18.9

And if they're not, then that too is also a thing. And I have spent many, many couple sessions

1:24.1

where, and I'll just go with the numbers that I see in my office, let's just say often a guy won't remember the date of when he and his wife first looked across a crowded

1:33.2

high school lunchroom only to have her look away, as she didn't want to seem too obvious,

1:37.8

while she, and I'm being honest, this is an absolutely true example, will then call this growing

1:43.5

resentment over the next 15 years as he refuses

1:46.2

to remember that date, leaving it up to her to finally bring it up when they go to bed that evening.

1:51.0

And in that particular scenario, when we started to dig a little bit deeper, a little further
