John Humphrey Noyes, the leader of the Oneida community, which is a religious communist commune slash cult.

So they begin building their new home on a large plot of land in Oneida, New York, in 1848.

Onida is close to Ithaca, so it's on one of the Finger Lakes up there.

And this property used to be part of a Native American reservation that used to house part of the Oneida tribe of the Iroquois Nation.

But, of course, in the 1800s, the state of New York and white land speculators manipulated the nation into selling off most of its land and forcing them to move out west.

Ugh.

Yeah. So it was now open land with remnants of old Native American cabins and I think a perfect place to begin a fledging sex cult.
