Summary

In today's longform weekend podcast - Glenn begins with some good news and tells us why the color ORANGE used to be a favorite but now gives him the creeps. He explains the silver lining hiding behind the big dark cloud and talks about Judge Chutkan's determination to start Trump's election interference trial on march 4th. She set a date for Jury selection to begin on February 9th in Trump's trial for trying to overthrow the 2020 election. Glenn says he'll be in court that day to report on the proceedings. Next, "The boss is not going to leave under any circumstances. We are just going to stay in power." That's the quote from a proffer video that was leaked to the press and it could mean big trouble for Trump in his Georgia RICO case. After flipping and pleading guilty, Trump co-defendant Jenna Ellis provided videotaped statements to the prosecution. This was leaked to the press by another co-defendant's lawyer. Glenn says this testimony is really incriminating. Then finally, more on-again off-again gag orders for Trump. Glenn explains the details of the gag order "reflex" from the courts and it seems all of the gag order guardrails that keep Trump from saying or posting harmful things about court staff or witnesses are not holding in place due to the many appeals Trump keeps filing. Glenn says we need to stop him from continuing to harm people once and for all.

Hey all, Glenn Kirchner here.

0:26.7

Welcome, once again, to my weekend audio

0:29.6

podcast, Justice Matters.

0:32.1

We are ready to air it out. Last week was quite a week on the

0:35.8

legal landscape and the week ahead promises to be really interesting,

0:41.5

particularly this coming Monday, because in an appellate

0:46.9

courtroom in Washington, D.C. a three-judge panel will be taking up Judge

0:52.3

Chutkin's gag order of Donald Trump. I think what

0:56.0

we have all learned is the courts seem to have a gag

1:03.4

reflex because these gag orders are on again and off again and on again and off again and off again and

1:07.6

again and off again and the minute they get paused

1:10.9

Donald Trump begins threatening and endangering witnesses.

1:17.0

You would think the system would learn at some point the necessity to keep these gag orders in place but as I say it

1:27.8

looks like they have a gag reflex and it's working to the detriment to the danger of the witnesses and judges and

1:38.3

their staff and the prosecutors and the jurors and the prospect of justice.

1:47.0

Justice for we the people, the American voters,

1:51.0

because in a very real and direct sense given the prosecution in Washington DC

1:56.7

friends the American voters are the victims and we'll talk more about that in a little bit, but I actually want to start with the

2:07.2

silver lining. I'm beginning to feel compelled to start each weekend podcast with a little bit of silver lining. You know that

2:18.8

little sliver of light that is hiding behind the big dark cloud that is Donald Trump.

2:27.0

Maybe we should say the big orange cloud.
