Let's push off from the placid shore of the status quo

and explore what's beyond the horizon.

I am your host, BT, and this is Truth and Shadow, your podcast of the Supernatural. Welcome listeners to another episode. Today, I'm going to begin the episode by drawing in a distinction,

one that was used all the way back in the medieval period that they used to make a distinction

in every form of science. They divided their science into three things. The material object,

the formal object, and the method. The material object is the formal object, and the method.

The material object is the thing you are studying.

So in the case of chemistry, for example, you are studying the properties, composition, and behavior of matter,

and the interaction between them, and that kind of thing.

In biology, you are studying living organisms and the interactions with the environment and that type of thing such as genetics or ecology the formal object is the perspective that you take on it so human beings can be studied from a biological point of view or from a chemical point of view or they can be studied from a theological or a philosophical point of view.

So you can have the same material object, in this case a human,

but looked at from different points of view, from a biological, from a chemical,

from a theological, philosophical view.

And then that perspective that you take on it determines what is called the method.

Because obviously the method which is used in biology is going to be different from the method used in chemistry.

It's different in the method of philosophy or theology.
