Summary
The Oak Island Money Pit- definitely one of North America's greatest unsolved mysteries and the subject of a long running show on The History Channel- is said to contain a treasure of unknown magnitude- but what that treasure is made up of is uncertain. A few things are certain- the money pit, which is 130 feet deep, is deadly,and has taken 6 lives so far without giving anyone solid answers. Efforts to excavate the pit and subsequent parallel pits and tunnels have provided disastrous results as the pits fill with salt water and become deadly traps. Artifacts are being found- ancient miners axes and helmets, Roman crosses, pieces of parchment from Elizabethan times, small idols, a Portuguese coin, and evidence of sophisticated beach rebuilding for the purpose of installing vents leading toward the pit that was first discovered by boys in 1795.
