The day before his Matt Gates has withdrawn his nomination to be the next attorney general.

He said, I had excellent meetings with senators yesterday. While the momentum was strong,

it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of

the Trump Vance transition. There's no time to waste. Thus, I'll be withdrawing my name from

consideration to serve as Attorney General. J.D. Vance said, I'm extremely grateful for the work

Matt has put into the nomination process.

He made his decision to withdraw entirely out of respect for President Trump's administration.

Donald Trump quickly replaced Gates with Pam Bondi.

She was the Attorney General of Florida from 2010 to 2018 under Governor Rick Scott,

and she was one of Trump's defense lawyers during his first impeachment

trial. Trump said, I've known Pam for many years. She's smart and tough as an America first fighter
