But first, the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard,

announced the release of 230,000 files related to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Reverend was assassinated in Memphis on April 4, 1968, only at the age of 39.

James Earl Ray, a convicted robber and prison escapee, was identified as King's killer after his fingerprints were found

on a rifle used in the assassination and discarded near the murder scene. In March 1969, Ray pleaded

guilty to King's murder to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
