Thank you. The church has already been celebrating a new year, a new church year, according to the

liturgical calendar for about a month here with the season of Advent.

At the beginning of December, we were in a new year.

The world was still in the old year, and only now is it beginning to, well, this year of 2020, what do you have to say about it?

It's pure superstition to say that as soon as the clock strikes midnight tonight, 2020 will be over

and all the troubles that it brought with it will end too. That's superstition. That's idolatry.

With 2021, we will still be sinners and we will still need Jesus and we will still await

his coming again to bring all of this to an end, a final end.

But in the meantime, we as Christians kind of live according to two calendars and two clocks.

The world is beginning maybe to celebrate a new year, but it will in a lot of ways be just like the old one.
