This week how the people of Austria suffered after the Second World War.

I remember mommy-pop us children to get under the dining room table. I heard screams and people swearing

and calling us names. That's all coming up later in the podcast, but for the first portion of this week,

we're going to be looking at matters of occupation during the Second World War.

The regimes put in place by the Nazis in the countries they overran

characteristically sought to crack down on any hint of dissent or resistance.

To that end, the Nazi authorities prepared lists of people to be arrested and dealt with.

At the end of the war, Allied troops in Germany discovered one of these extraordinary documents,

the top secret Special Search Index GB, containing the names of

prominent British people to be arrested once Germany had invaded

the UK.

The list became known as the Black Book.
