It's a really interesting book that's equal parts biography and mystery, and dives into

a slice of history that I'd never really paid much attention to before.

In case you don't really recognize the name Rudolph Diesel, after all, I didn't.

He was an integral figure during the industrial era, and was responsible for creating the

diesel engine, which played a big role in the evolving world of shipping and transportation.

Hell, it still does more than a century later.

In the lead up to World War I, Diesel was seemingly in a state of personal and professional

flux, and had a lot of intriguing possibilities opened up to him because of his innovation,

as well as a lot of pressures being put on him by major figures in the world.

Among them, Kaiser Wilhelm II and John D. Rockefeller.

But then, during an overnight crossing of the English Channel in September of 1913, Diesel

disappeared, seemingly vanishing into the night.
