beloved characters spent his final days, his final hours, in a fight with the woman who would end his

Philip Edward Hartman, filled to everyone who knew him, was born on September 14, 1948, in Brantford,

Ontario as the fourth of eight children born to Doris and Rupert Hartman. The Hartman family,

when Phil was 10 years old, moved to the United States and settled in Maine first, before

moving on to Connecticut and finally to the West Coast. Raised in a strict Catholic family where affection

was hard to come by, Phil grew up to be the class clown and use his humor to earn the love

and admiration of his classmates. After graduating high school, Phil began studying art at Santa Monica

City College but dropped out in 1969 to become a roadie with a rock band.

Once off the tour, Phil went back to college in 1972, this time studying graphic arts

at California State University and from there developed his own graphic design business

where he created more than 40 album covers and some pretty successful ad campaigns.
