| 0:00.0 | Hi everybody, welcome to Smarter News. |
| 0:07.0 | I'm Jenna and this is a rare late night podcast recording. |
| 0:13.0 | It is 10 p.m. Central time on Tuesday, December 9th, but I felt compelled to do some reporting for you. And I wish I could tell you it's rare |
| 0:21.9 | that we work late into the evening at Smarter News, but it's not. And it's because I have so |
| 0:27.5 | much passion for what we do. It's important to me that we provide a new service to you. So there |
| 0:33.9 | are moments that it doesn't matter, the hour, the day of the week, that I will make whatever effort I can to make sure you have what you need. |
| 0:42.9 | And there are two moments where I really can think that that happens. One is if there's a newsworthy event taking place, and you need somewhere to go where you can get the who, what, where, when, how, and why and really just get a foundation for the story during a very chaotic or confusing time. That's something I believe we can provide you in a quick, easy, nonpartisan way. So if something's newsworthy, we're going to try to figure it out. We're not a 24-hour newsroom, but when we can, when we feel it's the right moment to step, and we're going to make sure you have what you need. The second time that I feel most compelled is it doesn't have to be all about |
| 1:16.4 | the headline, the flashy, splashly headline. It could be just simply a feeling of moral obligation. |
| 1:23.1 | I look at you as extended family, as a community, and I want you to have the best information. |
| 1:30.1 | And in this cluttered media environment, sometimes it's hard to see what's really important |
| 1:34.7 | or what can really affect our families. |
| 1:36.5 | And I have a real physical reaction sometimes to a story that I see, read, or hear about. |
| 1:42.2 | That's the only way I can describe it. |
| 1:43.5 | It's almost instinctual where I think |
| 1:45.3 | this is the moment that I have to step in front of a microphone or share something with you because |
| 1:50.4 | I think it's that important for your family. What's interesting about the story that's in front of us |
| 1:54.8 | today is it really has both components. It is a newsworthy story, but there's also a feeling of |
| 2:00.7 | obligation. I know it's a very busy time a year. |
| 2:02.6 | We got a lot of other things to focus on. |
| 2:04.6 | And I will guarantee you that the story that I'm going to share with you, |
| 2:08.6 | although it may have the potential to impact your family the most, |
| 2:12.6 | likely will not get the front page coverage that other stories will. |
