Simmythi, maybe you could start please tell me a little bit about who you are and your background for those that might not be aware.

For sure. So I'm a producer and a journalist in Canada working at work for a program called the fifth state, which is our investigative documentary program at the CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Like panorama in the UK, if you familiar with that, we'd be your version of panorama.

So we make one hour documentaries investigative documentaries and I'm a producer and a director with the show.

And this guy next to me is one of our presenters and hosts.

Excellent. Mark, maybe you can tell us a little bit about yourself too.

Seriously, great to meet you. I am one of the co-hosts of the fifth state being with the program for about 10 years, 35 year career as a journalist here in Canada.

And fifth state is Canada's premier investigative program. We've been on the entering our 49th season this year and we tackle stories that deal with Canadians.

And Canadians who are around the world and that really brought us to the story of the Mormon Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a global, global church that has a presence here in Canada, huge presence in the United States.

But one that got our interest and kept us traveling around the world for some months last year.

Well, I watched your expose there and it was fascinating and it was certainly an eye-opener for me. I mean, I know a fair bit about the theology.

Didn't realize how much money was involved and specifically where it isn't spent.

So, I mean, before we get into the details then, it might be worth talking about the Mormon faith in general, for those who want to burst in it.

In what ways does it diverge from a sort of mainstream Christian theology? What differentiates Mormonism from a sort of, you know, Catholic understanding?

I'm not a theological expert, so I'm going to be careful about how much I pretend to be one.

I mean, I can tell you just a little bit about what we learned while we were working on the program, but I mean, I can't really speak to the faith too deeply, other than to say it is an organization that exists around the world.

It has hundreds of thousands of members, millions of members around the world.

17 million members around the world, 300 temples, 74 countries.
