Summary
In this dramatic short story a character named Dr. James lives a double life. A doctor by day, he gains and betrays his patients confidence by robbing them of their money and jewels. By night, he uses his deft hands and tools to break into their houses and safes. On this night he encounters a transplanted Southern family which has run into hard times.
