You're invited to turn with me in your Bibles to this morning's text.

1st Peter 1 verses 13 through 16.

If you're using a pew Bible, the text is found on page 1, 139, beginning with verse 13.

Therefore, gird your minds for action.

Keep sober in spirit. Fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

As obedient children, Christ.

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the holy one who called you, be wholly yourselves also in all

your behavior. Because it is written, you shall be holy, for I am holy.

For I am holy.

For 12 verses,

verses, no command, no exhortation, no admonition,

and then verse 13, the first command we saw it last week,

hope fully in grace. Today the Second Commandment, be holy,

for I am holy.

And I wish I had about 10 minutes to just take a

parenthesis and talk about the centrality of God in the Christian life as the source of our hope and as the

standard of our holiness.

But instead of doing that, I'm going to jump over all of that and go straight to

this issue of holiness. First, hope. Second, be holy. Be hop second, be holy.

Be hopers, be holy.

Be hopers first, be holy, second.
