Well, hello, my friends and welcome to the Live Inspired podcast Monday morning moments with John O'Leary.

Dozens of visits to my Burns Center hospital room.

Pushing me around with a huge smile on his face during John O'Leary Day at the ballpark,

sending me a single signed baseball, challenging me how to write again, following that first baseball,

with 59 additional ones, gifting me upon graduating college, his priceless Hall of Fame crystal

baseball, being a friend, being an encourager when I so desperately needed one.

Well, my friends, the list captures just a fraction of the kindness that Jack Buck showed me

throughout his life. As a child, I never understood

why he was so generous. But even after his death, I could not comprehend why he did so much,

so selflessly for some random little guy. A few years ago, I invited his son, Joe, to meet me for coffee.

I wanted to thank Joe and the entire Buck family for all they did for me.

They collectively profoundly changed my life and their compassion uplifted not only me, but our entire family.

Before departing, I asked Joe why his dad had been so radically generous. Without hesitating,

his response was this. John, it was the look of joy in your eyes every single time he was with

you that kept him coming back. I've thought frequently about Joe's answers since that visit.

Last weekend, at a little boy's house, 250 miles away from my own,

I finally came to truly appreciate what he meant, though.

I first met Davion through an email sent to our office last March.
