Pope Francis, a voice for the poor and a catalyst for change as the head of the Catholic Church has died.

The Vatican announced the Pope passed away on Easter Monday,

the morning after the holiest day in the Christian year.

At 88 years old, Francis was battling poor health in recent weeks,

yet managed to make a public appearance on Easter Sunday,

where he delighted crowds at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
