Yes, I am the president of the Eos Foundation,

which is an endowed philanthropy that makes investments in combating hunger in Massachusetts

and promoting gender and racial justice. Excellent, excellent. Well, again, very happy to have you.

We have a very special show today, so we appreciate you for joining us.

Before we get into that, though, it's time for us to talk about our new stories for the week.

And since you are our guest host, we'd love for you to go first. What are you reading today?

Oh, I was so interested in this story by Adam LaHoddy about how four Bronx charter schools are achieving educational excellence,

and they're classical academies. And what they've done is they have very high standards.

These are serving low-income students in the Bronx, and they have a laser-like focus on student

outcomes. Their true north is all about what are the student

outcomes and everything else has to be secondary. And I am a big fan of classics. And when I read

about this and saw that these are elementary schools and all the kids are learning Latin, two things,

Latin and debate. And for me, the notion of learning Latin. Two things, Latin and debate.

And for me, the notion of learning Latin, which I took in high school, is the art of learning for its own sake.

It is like the foundation of understanding that learning isn't just tactical, but it is valuable

in and of itself.
