Welcome to The Lost Debata Show for Politically Ecclectics. I'm Ravi Gupta. And today, we're going to focus on the law. And when I think about the law, you know, I went to law school. But my first experience with the law was not a very flattering experience. I was in high school and I got into a fight and I got arrested. And I had to basically drag myself over to criminal court in Staten Island a few times

to go to different hearings.

And it was weird experience because the prosecutor, one of the prosecutors on the other

side was actually like one of my neighbors.

So I got to watch him and also watch him, watch me and give me a very judgmental look every time he saw me in the courtroom.

But I didn't have the experience one would think.

Like obviously I was embarrassed by what I did and what I had to put my mom through and all that.

But I was like mesmerized by the profession, like just being in this old courthouse

and watching these lawyers shuttling from one person to the next and handling clients and all that

and this sort of intricate dance that was the courthouse in Staten Island.

And I always wanted to be a doctor as a kid, but that was the first moment when I thought to myself,

oh, this seems like a really

interesting profession. And I could see why people love to spend time in these courthouses.

Fast forward now, you know, I've been to law school. I've never practiced. I have tons of friends

who are lawyers, and I spent a lot of time talking to them. And I think what's interesting to me

is the difference between what I hear from my friends

and the perceptions of the profession.

So Gallup recently did a poll that found that they asked this question, please tell me how

you'd rate the honesty and ethical standards of people in different fields.

Very high, high, average low, very low.

And lawyers are among the worst coming at

at 16% high or very high ethical rating compared to, say, 78% for nurses. My mom is a nurse,
