I pick up the phone when I get to CBS.

I say, I'm Dr. John LaPouc from CBS News.

Guess what?

They pick up the phone and suddenly I'm on the phone with the world's expert or A world's

expert in whatever this field was.

Then I would start writing the piece with my producers, which is so important.

The piece goes on at 6.30, no matter what.

You know, I ended up amazingly doing 60 minutes pieces and at 60 minutes they say, the piece

goes on the air when it's done.

For the evening news, the piece goes on the air at 6.30.

So, it's going on the air.

Dr. John LaPouc is the chief medical correspondent for CBS News and he's had to master the art

of conveying complex medical information in a few seconds of air time.

That's a task more challenging than ever in the age of COVID.

John is also a friend, so just last week I took the opportunity to grab a few minutes

of his time to ask him how he does it and how he juggles being a professor of medicine

at New York University's Langone Medical Center with regular appearances on the nightly news.

This is so great to be talking with you because you have such an interesting life in communication.

How did you get the job to be the chief correspondent for CBS News in which you keep us informed

about our general health and the emergencies involved with our health like the pandemic

we're going through now?
