Today, why a generation of young people in France feel they have nothing left to lose.

It's been a week since 17-year-old Niall was shot in Paris.

He was in a yellow Mercedes with two friends.

When a traffic stop by French police, early last Tuesday morning, ended in his killing.

Niall had given his mum a hug. He told her he loved her and said he was off to McDonald's.

She said they left home at the same time.

She went off to work.

An hour later, she found out her son had been shot.

The teenager's death has sparked outrage.

Paris is burning.

But so are cities and towns across France, spreading to regions in French-speaking Belgium and Switzerland.

Thousands of young people have been arrested.

Some just 13 years old.

What's happened night after night in France for the past week has been a lot more serious than

any unrest or writing that's happened over the last few decades.

The anger that has been on the street in so many different places in France.

Not just in the suburbs north of Paris, but in places as far away as to lose,

and mess in the east, strazbo and leel.

More people and younger people have been on the streets.

More damage has been caused from burning cars to shops to town halls, police stations,

even 200 schools.
