And I'm Antonia Dodge. In the last podcast we talked a little bit about John BB's 8 function model and a little bit about shadow functions which are the four functions that are not in your what's technically called your cognitive function stack or what we

refer to as the car model of your personality type.

And we get some questions or we frequently get questions around, you know know why we focus on the four function you know

stack or that four function model as opposed to all eight functions

and there's there's a of different reasons we mentioned in

the last podcast that we feel there's a lot of work to do for most people in their

car model and so we don't want to do a ton of misdirecting or redirecting attention away from that growth process.

But I think it's also because there is a phenomena that happens in relationship to each personality

type and their car model or those that you don't see in relationship to each personality type

and their car model or those four functions

that you don't see in the shadow processes.

And that is the word compulsion.

We feel compelled to use our functions

that are in our car model.

There's a relationship we have with those functions

that makes it so that we can't fully get away from their influence and

we wouldn't want to honestly they're part they're basically what makes up our

personality type the compulsion comes from those functions being either our dominant and auxiliary or we call our driver and co-pilot

and they're strong there are they're the the strengths we bring to the world and there are primary lenses through which we see reality.

And then the tertiary and inferior, or the 10-year-old and three-year-old functions, are intrinsically

linked to the driver and the co-pilot because they create a polarity,
