There is no such thing as a typical day for a homicide detective.

At the Orlando Police Department in 2006 when Jennifer Kessie disappeared,

Sergeant Rich Ring, supervisor of the Homicide Unit, started his day early.

He'd awake each morning at 5 a.m. fixed himself two cups of coffee, kept the local

headlines and lift some weights at the gym, before reporting

to headquarters in the downtown district. There, he'd log on to his computer, inside

a tiny barren windowless office, and carefully review each and every case

update within his purview. Office hours for Rich were usually between 7 a.m.

but when a murder occurs it's not typically during working business hours.

Rich was on call 24-7, and directing the six detectives working under him.
