Before the pandemic, he came to Sydney and he did a big day-long event with his brother, Brett Weinstein, and Sam Harris and Marjid Nawaz and Douglas Murray.

And I was the moderator of these intellectual dissidents from scattered portions of the global

community of near-de- Ned Wells and troublemakers

for what ended up being a failed and controversial

event run by a huckster who never paid us

nonetheless

Eric was fascinating

he is the man who coined the term the intellectual dark web to try to kind of put his arms

around this phenomenon of people who were interested in talking about controversial,

political and cultural issues in a heterodox way, meaning a way that doesn't align neatly with

left or right, with the institutional biases of mainstream media and polite company and

conventional thinking. And that moniker, that grouping, that intellectual kind of idea of their being a cohort of such

people has collapsed completely and disintegrated.

Because some of those people have gone spinning and spiraling off into what you might

think of as crazy town, into intense COVID conspiracy thinking, anti-vaccine

beliefs, stridentcy about politics, gone down the Trump rabbit hole, you know, whether

or not people like Dave Rubin or Ben Shapiro, wherever part of this group is open to question.
