Summary

Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down the facts surrounding Wednesday’s ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis and highlight both the mature and the grossly irresponsible reactions from political figures. They also update one of Wednesday's martinis and wonder if Kari Lake is planning a political comeback in a different state.

First, after noting House Speaker Mike Johnson’s comments on taxpayer-funded abortions, Jim and Greg carefully walk through what actually happened in Thursday’s Minneapolis shooting. They spotlight NBC’s moment-by-moment coverage of the confrontation and commend those who resisted the urge to rush to judgment before the facts were clear.

Next, they sharply criticize Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for what they describe as wildly irresponsible overreactions and immediate conclusions about the fatal incident. Jim also calls out Minneapolis public schools for canceling classes for multiple days, suggesting the reasoning behind that decision is all too obvious.

Finally, they shift gears and address the speculation that Kari Lake might run for U.S. Senate in Iowa after recently purchasing vacation property in her home state. So far, Lake is doing little to end the rumors of another campaign after statewide losses in Arizona in 2022 and 2024.

Three martini's coming up.

0:13.2

Hey, very glad you're with us for the Thursday edition of the three martini lunch.

0:16.9

There's a lot to get to, and I think you know what we're going to be talking about most of the day,

0:20.2

and that's the ice-involved shooting in Minneapolis yesterday, and some of the ramifications

0:24.0

that are still going on today. We'll also be taking a look at some speculation on an open U.S.

0:30.1

Senate seat this time in Iowa. But before we get into all of that, a quick update on one of

0:36.2

yesterday's martinis in which we highlighted President Trump earlier this week saying that Republicans in Congress needed to be a little bit flexible on the Hyde Amendment, meaning taxpayer funding of abortion.

0:46.4

Doesn't look like the Republicans have any intention of being flexible on that, thankfully.

0:50.6

Melanie Zanona over at NBC tweeting out yesterday, I asked Speaker Johnson about Trump's suggestion yesterday that Republicans be flexible

0:57.7

on hide language and a health care deal, quote,

1:00.3

we are not going to change the standard that we're not going to use taxpayer funding for abortion.

1:06.1

I'm just not going to allow that to happen, unquote.

1:09.2

So assuming that that ends up being the case,

1:12.4

that's a definite win for the pro-life side, Jim. It is, and it's reassuring to hear that speaker

1:17.0

seems to have his finger on the pulse of pro-lifers and well appreciated. You know, this may fade

1:23.4

away. I hope the president hears this signal. Understands it. Understands this is a bridge too far for pro-lifers and moves on. I'd last thing you'd want to see in the middle of a already very busy time of year for Republicans. It's a spat between the speaker and the president. A lot to get done. We could have another shutdown before the month's over. Who knows? We'll talk about that maybe a little bit towards the end of our conversation today. But let's, first of all, tell you about noble gold.

1:48.0

We're off to a new year and no one really knows what 2026 is going to bring. The new cycle has already

1:52.9

been very clear about that. Elections, markets, military action, who knows. But we do know that

1:58.3

gold and silver have outlasted every empire, every crash, and every currency.

2:03.1

And so if you want to get a better, more diversified portfolio, and especially looking at gold and precious metals for your retirement, you can't do any better than noble gold.
