Welcome to another episode of The Homestretch w/Adrian Durant, where we meet and have conversations with some of the most inspiring and elite athletes, coaches and sports personalities. Our today’s' guest has represented his Country 5 times in the Olympic games and his Country's first athlete to reach an Olympic final, we have with us, former track and field sprinter, Kim Collins. Kim has competed in 5 World Championships in which he won 4 bronze and 1 gold medals and 2 World indoor Championships where he won Silver each time. He is also a Commonwealth games gold medalist, Pan American Games silver medalist and won 3 gold in 2 times in CAC Championships.

In this interview with Kim Collin we talk about his fantastic career as an athlete. Kim shares about how his early days were like and when he got into track & field. He talks about his time at Texas Christian University and representing his Country in 5 consecutive Olympic Games. Kim is truly an elite athlete, In 2018 Collins announced his retirement, he competed at the 60m at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships which was his last performance at a World Championship bringing an end to a shinning career that spanned almost 17 years. In this podcast, Kim also shares his plans for the future after retiring as an active athlete.

Kitson, N. So a little bit of Kim's resume before we get going, Kim was an NCAA champion in the 60 and the 200 meter indoor. He's been a five Olympic Games representing his country, 2003 World Champion in 100 meters became becoming the first world championships from St. Kitson,

and the first athletes are reaching even Olympic final from your country. So just the best the best ever the best to ever do it.

We're going to get into that because longevity and that's a big thing in the sport I want to talk about longevity and having a real career. So the whole purpose of this podcast, I just want to hear the story of amazing athletes like yourself and hear what it takes to get to your level and what you've had to overcome to get there because I know it's taking a lot.

So let's let's get it going. I'm really excited here about it. You know, what got you started in track and feel.

I started for a while, and you know, sometimes people don't want to hear it too, but when I was in high school, I realized that, of course, if you're the start athlete, the kids will like it.

Now, looking back, yes, you started for a while, but you focus change over time, you know, you realize then you can travel to an athlete representing a country.

You know, being of junior college and division one NCAA, then you realize you could take it further, of course, going to the Olympics to watch our championships and be on the professional surface in your, mainly in your and then, of course, is having financial game.

So although you focus was on one thing at the beginning, as time went on, they realized there's a lot more to the sport than what you thought.

So you said what you said when you first got started, you said a wrong reason, you said the girl. So, so pretty much when you were kid, just the popularity and the recognition that you were getting from from you will beat it everybody I'm assuming.

Right, but it wasn't at the time, but you realize, how people are.

And to me, of course, if you're in school and you're not the which child or you're not the bright child or you're not the bad boy, you didn't have that thing which had to go.

So they were sports. So the start athlete will always stand on the well and school grounds also on sports day when you have the heat or any school competition before you go into like sports day and the interschool championships.

Was was track big when you were growing up huge.

Yeah, what it is now here on the island, when I was growing up, if you didn't go early, they couldn't get in.

I mean, it's just changed drastically. I thought it would have been for a better, but back then, the world was great, was more stronger, more participation and most comfortable.

And people didn't have anything. A lot of us were well in beef and grass.

Yeah, did you guys have a rubber track? Was that? No rubber track back then.

No, we did that in 2008. So by the time I became a low champion, we never had a track at the time.

And first we were still training and competing on grass. So almost was like we were stuck in time still competing on grass.

But most of the places were well, but it was not too much uneven that requires injuries, especially with the anchor twisted the anchor very easily when the ground is uneven.
