Summary

Hey, y'all! Welcome to episode 27 of the Roots and Refuge Podcast.

In today’s episode, I’m discussing the home dairy. What dairy animal is best for your specific circumstances, what variables go into deciding which dairy animal to choose, and the basic information everyone should know before bringing home a dairy animal. These are the tips I wish I would have known before bringing home our eight dairy goats years ago!

0:10.4

thankful that you're here today here on our podcast. We talk about all things homesteading,

gardening, raising animals, growing food in all sorts of ways, as well as harvesting it, preserving it, preparing it, enjoying it,

0:22.7

and just overall trying to live a more mindful life, aware and relationally engaging with the

0:30.0

earth and with each other in a healthy and mindful way. My husband, Jeremiah, and I are homesteading

0:35.2

on 27 acres in the Midlands of South Carolina.

And here on the Roots and Refuge podcast, we upload new content every Wednesday. I just started the podcast in January. I think I don't know what episode

1:04.9

this is 20 something. Here we are in June. And I've enjoyed this so thoroughly.

1:13.7

I wanted to do a podcast for a long time, but, you know, obviously it's not like we weren't busy.

1:20.2

We had a lot of things going on.

1:21.6

It keeps us pretty at capacity.

1:24.3

But I really felt like this year was the year to dive off into podcasting. I'm so glad

1:29.4

that we did because I feel like this format really allows us to go deeper into discussion

1:35.5

about some topics that it's harder to do in a video. Like obviously with the video, there is

1:40.8

the pressure to create like visual interest and and movement and all of the

1:46.5

different things whereas here we can really just relate a lot of information and I really like that

1:51.0

so today I'm here by myself sometimes I will have guests or my husband Maya will join me

1:55.8

but I really wanted to go sort of deep into the topic of the home dairy.

One of my favorite things to tell people is to turn your waiting room into a classroom.
