It's the Sound of Young America. I'm Jesse Thorn. I guess on the program, Tad Kubler and Craig Finn of the band, the whole steady, their brand new record album is called Stay Positive. It's a collection of anthemic songs often fun, sometimes tinged with sadness, with something that I really like to hear a lot of hand clap breaks.

My associate Chris over here went to your show last night and told me there was a lot of really awesome hand clapping.

There's kind of a double time hand clap thing that has started doing it. The audience has gotten pretty good at doing it at the right parts.

Does it take, does it take something to get them on board with it?

You can't introduce it in the show and bring it back in the middle but then at the end in the encore they've really got it down.

You can't just throw it in full board and expect them to maintain double time clapping. No, no, no, you warm them up, you get them used to it.

So the two of you were in another band before you started the whole steady that was significantly different and it feels like to me from reading interviews and hearing you talk about the whole steady that you had a very particular idea of what kind of band you wanted to make when you started the whole steady.

Is that fair Craig? You're giving a funny look. No, no, no, it's not funny. I was thinking the best way to phrase it.
