issues are profound. We begin with Reuters reporting

Hard Right once more EU power to reflect likely election gains.

What is the hard right?

What does it mean EU power?

I welcome Judy Dempsey, the editor-in-chief of Strategic Europe

for the Carnegie Endowment of International Peace.

She's in Berlin observing these elections

that are over several days, but in any event,

the forces are gathering themselves now.

Judy, a very good day to you. Hard right. That means

something very specific in America. What does it mean in the European Union

today? Good evening to you. Good evening, John, and thank you for having me on your great show.

The hard right can be briefly summarized as follows.

All right political parties across Europe, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany, Sweden,

they will willingly campaign to join the European Parliament.

However, they will do the utmost to reduce the influence of the European Parliament

by actually trying to restore national sovereignty to the Member States.

A brief word for your listeners,

anybody who joins any country that joins the European Union

seeds a bit of sovereignty,

over competition, over trade, over travel, over control over certain aspects.
